“Hey Dad Im An Anarchist” and “Angry Political Song” by Evan Greer

In my opinion, Evan Greer’s two greatest songs. Both have very deap meanings and I hope you enjoy them.

“Hey Dad Im An Anarchist”

do you remember naptimes how we’d lay down on that big old bed
just above the covers in the house we used to live in
and you’d been at work all day and so you were tired
so you never really noticed when i’d slip down to the floor
with tiny feet unsure
but steadied by the carpet fibers between my toes
i’d stumble to the door, peak my head and go
you woke up twelve years later and i was vandalizing signs
for luxury condominiums and politicians without spines
the next thing that you know i am calling you from jail
you know i would have loved you anyway if you hadn’t post my bail
but i’m not sure if you realize all the tears that fell from my eyes
when you told me it was worthless those three days i spent in hell
and thought i knew that you were wrong
and though i proved it in a song
you made me feel weak when i needed to feel strong
you made me wonder if it was really just a game all along?
and i know it would make you happy if i’d just focus on my degree
put down my guitar and give up anarchy
come home every summer play the way other kids play
be happy getting’ drunk each night and waitin’ tables every day
but hey dad, i’m an anarchist
it’s not a phase and it’s not a disease
and though my hands are worn for my age
would you still hold one of them please?
i just want you to know that i love you
and i want you to love me too
right now i’m not sure where home is
but i’m sure there’s room there for you
i want the same thing as every other homesick patched-up kid in this crowd
i want my dad to look at me; i want him to be proud.

“Angry Political Song”

throw a question at a monkey
and it always ducks,
slap a flag on a t-shirt
you can make a few bucks,
and im not sayin that i dont hate him too,

but weve got red blood,
white hands and im feelin blue

people disapearin, tell me where did they go?
the melting pot melted about 9 months ago
it dont lower the death toll
when more people die,
In this war against who, what, where, when,
and why?
why why?
please mr. president, tell us what to do

cuz weve got red blood, white hands,
and were feelin blue.

bush kills a tree, but its in the name of the war,
and those lousy immigrants
better not knock on our door,
suspect your neighbor if he dont own a flag
hes probably one of them no good commie fags!
Watch for people singin too loud
about something wrong
“speakin of which sir,
do we have a file on the kid
that wrote this song?”

red blood, white hands, feelin blue

soothing secretarial soliloquy
keeps our country calm,
i just hope im not here
when they drop the bomb,
and i hope they havnt already pushed the button when they finally get a clue,

cuz well have red blood white hands
and well be feelin blue

ive been thinking and i have my doubts,
is it worth protecting if we have to turn it
inside out?

you’re either good or evil
there aint no in between,
so stand over here, shut your mouth
and pick up an M-16.
you little boys with guns
just say goodbye to dad and mom,
and you’ll go marching into our
brand new vietnam!

[spoken]
remember vietnam?
how many men didn’t have to die?
how many children didn’t have to cry?
and how many more times will the politicians lie?

no more
say it, no more!

because we’re not gonna find democracy in washington; we’re gonna have to bring it with us.
democracy is only found in the streets, with the people.
but this country seems to have a serious problem with democracy right now. our faithful leader president bush has decreed to all of us that “you’re either with us, or you are the enemy.”

i am the enemy.
i am the enemy.

we the people of the united states of america vow to withstand tyranny and imperialism in all of its forms.
no.
