Politically speaking, what comes to mind when I say "Anarcho-Capitalism"?

For me a certain place comes to mind….Ancient Israel.

I know this probably surprises a lot of you, but according to the Bible Ancient Israel lived in a stateless society for 450 years. There was NO taxation. Yes, they had the tithe, but there was no punishment for not paying the tithe. They were even warned about the oppression that results from government.

Hmm…maybe Christians should be Anarcho-Capitalists…What say you?
@yanling, yes the kings were corrupt, but Israel was not under kings until they pleaded to God for them so that they could be like all of the other nations around them.

Remember, I said for 450 years….Israel’s history is much longer than 450 years.

Tithing started during Adam and Eve time from the beginning. Before any civilization existed, where the community lived closely under God’s guidance. We know this in bible, where we know that Adam and Eve children had given God their tithe.

However, The New Testament nowhere designates a percentage of income a person should set aside, but only says it is to be “in keeping with income” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Some in the Christian church have taken the 10 percent figure from the Old Testament tithe and applied it as a “recommended minimum” for Christians in their giving. The New Testament talks about the importance and benefits of giving. We are to give as we are able. Sometimes that means giving more than 10 percent; sometimes that may mean giving less. It all depends on the ability of the Christian and the needs of the church. Every Christian should diligently pray and seek God’s wisdom in the matter of participating in tithing and/or how much to give (James 1:5). Above all, all tithes and offerings should be given with pure motives and an attitude of worship to God and service to the body of Christ. “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

The truth about new covenant blood of Jesus, is that tithe is not by percentage but by God’s revelation to you. You should pray to God and let Him give you the revelation of how much you should give to the church. Not by 10% law. The key is give cheerfully and willingly, otherwise whatever you give is useless and will not have the effect of blessing.

I get the warm and fuzzies but the label probably scares a lot of folks off. A free society sounds nicer.

Interesting concept. But when did this happen? From my readings, the ancient kings of Israel were quite abusive in their tax structures. While indeed the Israel of the Millennial future will undoubtedly be tax-free, Israel is hardly my idea of a tax haven currently.

Sounds like a plan to me. Wish I had the resources to start one… but the state won’t let me anyways.

(Edit: BTW, what do you think of anarcho-capitalism at the moment?)

I am close to being an anarcho-capitalist because i’m Christian, as it happens. One implication of the Old Testament story is that the state is a bad thing. Kings are portrayed as corrupt and Daniel, after whom my son is named for this reason, is a good example of civil disobedience. Prior to Saul, Israel was governed by judges.
