If a Christian believes homosexuality to immoral, and asked within the voting booth or without to condone it must they be true to their beliefs? In a democracy is there a paradox to giving to God what is God’s and to Caesar what is Caesar’s?
It should never be a question in the voting booth. The rights of blacks in the South used to be decided by vote, until it was realized just how wrong that was.

If you do think this way, what specifically is the threat? If you don’t think Christians are a threat to American Democracy, please state your reason why you think Christians should be involved in politics.
Its not Christians in general that are the threat…. It’s insane right-wing ultra-conservative Christians who are the threat. Imagine a Theocracy where homosexuals are rounded up and imprisoned in ‘re-education’ camps…. schools (all schools) are only allowed to teach the Bible…. Atheists are burned at the stake for heresy, stuff like that. And if you think than none of that stuff could ever happen in this country, don’t kid yourself…. In 1925 most Germans had never even heard of Adolf Hitler, and the ones who had mostly thought he was a punk kid with delusions of Nazi glory, and look what happened with that. We must all stay vigilant and watch for unreasonable changes in our government and its policies or we could end up with another Bush! Ignorance is our worst enemy and their greatest ally.

Yes it is. They are becoming more and more misanthropic and anti-democratic and the general population becomes more and more secularized. I know this from experience talking to evangelical friends from law school.

I love the saying that when fascism comes to America it will be dressed in an American flag and carrying a bible. I’ve had people on here tell me that i should be put to death because I don’t believe in god. Wow. I’ve NEVER heard an Atheist say someone should be put to death because they believed in god. If the religious were to be in charge, we would quickly sink in our international standing because our kids would get crap education.

Why is a Christian theocracy melded with Democracy a bad thing? Is it because it stands in the way of the secularist or Islamist agenda? Is it because it actually has bounds and brings unity to people? Is it because it makes us human?
Our democracy is being exploited. Many of our leaders don’t represent us. A very small number of people now control key points such as the media and obviously aren’t looking out for the good of the country or Christianity.
I think the church should become part of the state in Europe and America. It is the only way to save ourselves from relativism and secularism. Your thoughts?
First, a theocracy isn’t a "divine" ruling. It’s the church having a say in government. Second, if you don’t have a theocracy, do you know what you get? Secularism. You can’t pray in school, or in the workplace, you can’t mention Jesus or God, abortion and other immoral things are commonplace, etc. For all of you who are afraid of the Church having a say, maybe you should be more concerned about the havoc secularists are unleashing upon our nation. In another response, of course believe we should respect other religions. But they should respect the fact that we are the majority. Just like I respect the fact if I go to Israel its a Jewish state. Anyway,if the majority of Americans are Christians, what is the problem?
Well after reading the responses I’m a bit suprised. With all this tolerance and freedom, why can’t I have the freedom to even suggest or question forms of government? Sounds a little hypocritical.
BTW, most people(80-90%)in the US are Christians. Thats the truth.
Notice also how I never said I agreed with this form of government, I said MAYBE it might be good to some extend. You guys seem very afraid of any type of religious influence on society.
I’m Jewish – I’m NOT interested in living in a place where Christianity rules ANYTHING. (And by the way, Israel is NOT a theocracy and does NOT dictate the religion a person has to follow, or that a person has to follow ANY religion). You want religion and state mixed – try any of the Islamic countries – charming spots, right? If you think that Christianity would be better, you’re only kidding yourself.

Seriously, we also borrowed Rome’s arcitecture and style of government….so how are we a "fundamentally Christian" nation?
pink lemur 13-
"The United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…"
Founding Father and second President of the United States, John Adams.
What do you have to say to that?
Dale R- Yes, but we do have examples of democracy within our country……..besides the "republic" idea stems from Rome not Christianity
Ruth- So are you saying that factors such as religion, race, ethnicity define the U.S. as a whole? They do not, for the fact that saying that the U.S. is a chiristian nation soley becuase the majority is "Christian" is like saying that the U.S. is a white nation due to the fact that the majority of citizens are "white"………..
Pink Lemur 13- It’s in the treaty of Tripoli, not a speech…………………
Pink Lemur (again)-Of course the Declaration stands as a great political document. Its author aimed at a future government designed and upheld by people and not based on a superstitious god or religious monarchy. It observed that all men "are created equal" meaning that we all get born with the abilities of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That "to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men." Please note that the Declaration says nothing about our rights secured by Christianity. It bears repeating: "Governments are instituted among men."
The pursuit of happiness does not mean a guarantee of happiness, only that we have the freedom to pursue it. Our Law of the Land incorporates this freedom of pursuit in the Constitution. We can believe or not believe as we wish. We may succeed or fail in our pursuit, but our Constitution (and not the Declaration) protects our unalienable rights in our attempt at happiness.
Moreover, the mentioning of God in the Declaration does not describe the personal God of Christianity. Thomas Jefferson who held deist beliefs, wrote the majority of the Declaration. The Declaration describes "the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God." This nature’s view of God agrees with deist philosophy and might even appeal to those of pantheistical beliefs, but any attempt to use the Declaration as a support for Christianity will fail for this reason alone.
We’re not, no matter what SOME Christians would have us believe.
To the person who said "Spartan Pagans" and the person who thought it was the "Greeks" in general — Greece was NOT unified during the period in Athens where democracy was introduced and Sparta of the time was a duarchy (two kings as joint rulers)
To the poster who quoted a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance, historically the words "under God" were not part of the original Pledge and were added during the McCarthey era.

Yes they support it now, but Jesus will be an Absolute Monarch. Why the change Christians? Why don’t you find someone and crown them king? Why live in democracy when you should go ahead and get used to having an Autocrat?
The Dark Ages are enough proof to me to show they are not.

I do not think that our present economic system in the USA or in most of the Western world is compatible with Christian teachings. We tolerate too much poverty and encourage so much excess.
I would say that a system that is more towards socialism, but that allows for free enterprise would be more Christian. We would also have a true democracy where leaders are totally accountable. Not like what we have at the moment.
What do you think?
The Christians all want to be enslaved to a king/pope. You can hear them calling for it at every rally.

How would you feel if the Evil Atheist Communist countries invaded the U.S.A to impose communism and label themselves "Liberators"?
Russia:We will be Greeted as Liberators comrade.
rennfest Actually you fail because when i was referring to Atheist being Communist i was referring on how Christians Stereotype Atheist as being communist.
cadisney or are you Ignorant?
Because you couldn’t even answer a simple question.
Democracy? Fascism is the guise by which this country lives. Democracy was sold with our souls in 1913 to the globalist bankers who created our Monetary system and the FED.
Now sheep get back in the bread line!
