We don’t have time to read all this.
Do your own homework like the rest of us had to do.
I asked a question here today about being liberal, but before I asked, I looked up liberalism online, and it was easy to find a description of it.
After reading the reactions and answers to that question, it seems that republicans really hate liberals and feel that the description of liberal I found was wrong. If those republicans would do some reading before answering, they would see it is not wrong and liberalism is what it is, with small differences, but fundamentally the same. Republicans seem to confuse a liberal with a socialist…
So I wanted to compare liberalism with republicanism but I can’t seem to find a good description for republicanism…
What I did find was this;
Republicanism is the ideology of governing a nation as a republic, with an emphasis on liberty, rule of law, popular sovereignty and the civic virtue practiced by citizens. Republicanism always stands in opposition to any form of dictatorship or tyranny in the political realm. More broadly, it refers to a political system that protects liberty, especially by incorporating a rule of law that cannot be arbitrarily ignored by the government. As John Adams put it, “They define a republic to be a government of laws, and not of men.” Much of the literature deals with the issue of what sort of values and behavior by the citizens is necessary if the republic is to survive and flourish; the emphasis has been on widespread citizen participation, civic virtue, and opposition to corruption."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republicanism
And on the Republican party page I found this as political ideology;
Historical;
Abolitionism
Classical liberalism
Progressivism
Social liberalism
Modern:
Conservatism
Fiscal conservatism
Social conservatism
Neoconservatism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_(United_States)
(look in the right column)
So what I make of a republican now, is that they don’t really exist, because a republic is not an ideology, but a way to govern a country. A republican doesn’t really have core values like a socialist or liberal has, but at one point in time, republicans were actually liberals themselves…
So that’s why I ask this question;
What are the fundamental values of a republican?
The sick and infirm neo-con Party uses the billions of dollars saved by not providing health care to eliminate and kill people around the world who don’t see things their way. How much more depravity is the Republican Party capable of? The GOP hits a new low when it denies people the medical attention they require. The GOP goes even lower when they fund depleted uranium, phosphorous bombs, cluster bombs, shock and awe, etc., over child inoculations, pre-natal care, dialysis, PTSD, etc. This is the Republican Party that shoves its Lord and Savior, Jesus, down everyone’s throats the way it shoves tubes down hunger strikers in GTMO. Given the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus has a hot place reserved for Republicans. If there was a reason Hell to exist, it would be you. Yes, you who profess Judeo-Christian ethics as you ignore them. You who lock up the hungry for pilfering food as you steal oil. You who protect discarded blastocysts under the guise that "all life is precious" as you drop high altitude bombs on pregnant women and children.
When Dick Cheney needs a new battery for his pacemaker, the national media lets the world know. The media, the propaganda wing of the neo-conservative junta, sets the priorities. The Ministry of Public Opinion (MOPO) tells us when George W. Bush has his colonoscopy. It tells us we should give a damn about Dick Cheney’s ticker. It tells us we should give a damn as it doesn’t give a damn about us or our family members. We are supposed to care about the so-called first family. As for us and ours, well, screw you!

In what ways did civic republicanism, classical liberal principals, and English parliamentary traditions contribute to the development of American democracy.
Your answer doesn’t have to be very long.
c.r.: Established the tradition of the town meeting in which ordinary citizens spoke their mind to resolve problems. On a larger scale it led to the establishment of the House of Burgesses in Jamestown in 1619
clp: This led to the idea that slavery should be eliminated, women should be afforded equal status with men, child labor should be stopped, voting rights should be granted to the masses, and change is possible through government programs
Ept: This led to the Stamp Act Congress, the First Continental Congress, the Second Continental Congress, the Association, the Committees of Correspondence, and the Constitutional Convention all of which relied on English Parliamentary traditions in their proceedings.
And there you have it. Ta-Da!
The primary forms of government in the United States are Classical Republicanism and Progressive Socialism. Both of these systems will fail. Technically, under Anarchy humanity can succeed if everybody is civilized, however, humans will always be well, humans and never thrive. Additionally there is no way we can maintain essential systems such as education. A good middle ground is Western Libertarianism, but that is also risky as it assumes humanity can thrive on common sense. But common sense is a very primeval thing when you look at it subjectively.
So what are we to do? What kind of government can humanity use should it attempt to succeed? Democracy is aging. We have the power to destroy earth 20 times over, but some how our mindset is still in Greek period. We need to design a system that encourages progressive nature (capitalism) but yet provides fairness to its people (socialism).
So there must be some sort of government not yet implemented that can provide a better system. What do you think it is? Unbiased answers please. Don’t let your trivial conservative/liberalism interfere with manners that concern humanity’s future.
I don’t think the problem is with Liberalism or Conservatism, but more the current system now and how it’s gotten many of the wrong people into office.
Many Americans don’t vote, which is a mistake. You don’t like any of the candidates? Then show up and don’t pick any, or write one in. You think your vote won’t count? Not showing up simply tells those in power they can keep screwing you and you won’t do anything about it.
Many Americans also pick people on the wrong criteria. I really and honestly don’t care if an elected official is a womanizing drunken drug using party animal at night on his/her own time. I don’t care if he’s a solid individual now, but he used to have a coke habit in his teens.
I care about IDEAS. I care about the ISSUES. I stopped sitting here believing that somehow picking a total angel will guarantee us a good country. All this picking on "moral fiber" just makes it easier for them to lie and mislead the public. I could be a total scumbag, but tell enough lies and play the part of a good man, and people will buy it.
This is why people need to turn off the TV and open more sources to learn about the issues and the people who stand on them. Campaign mudslinging commercials won’t give you a good picture, and yet too many pick people based on them.
I agree on term limits for Congressmen, but if we don’t open our own minds up enough, then we’ll just keep putting one criminal after the next into office. We also need to support the good people, even when the majority of bad people sitting in office are working hard to get the good people out. Watch, listen, learn, be aware.
Out apathy and sloth is why we are in the mess we’re in.

Definition of State of Nature: State of nature is a term in political philosophy used in social contract theories to describe the hypothetical condition of humanity before the state’s foundation and its monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force. In a broader sense, the state of nature is the condition before the rule of positive law comes into being, thus being a synonym of anarchy. The idea of the state of nature was a part of a classical republicanism theory as a hypothetical reason of entering a state of society by establishing a government (Wikipedia).
