I know a lot of people including myself who label themselves as liberals/democrats even though we support strong fiscal conservatism. We would be republicans if not for the religious wing of the republican party who advance their religious ideals (and oppression). Liberals may be dead wrong on economics but they are dead right on social issues. What the hell happened to the Barry Goldwaters of the party?
The very fact that the libertarian party is a third party in this country is just sad. The Republican party used to be and still should be libertarian.
Maybe pagans would be liberals,
but monotheists seem to be right wingers.

Please explain the conservatism principle…and why the IRS will not adopt it for tax accounting purposes.
I looked it up on Google and found a Wikipedia article that mentioned it: "However, expected loss should be recognized fully and immediately due to conservatism principle." The IRS only taxes realized income, so it will only give credit for realized losses, not anticipated ones.
When I first read this, I thought you meant principles of conservatism, such as "Never give a sucker an even break" or "Never let the voters decide an election."

What do 19th century liberalism have in common with 19th century conservatism? I’ve researched a lot and I can see they are two completely different idealogies, but I can’t find what the have in common.I’m in desperate need of help.
Thanks!
They both have the ability to squabble with each other!

It seems like all her big plans are ridiculous. After enduring four (more) years of HillBilly, don’t you think the collective country would want to return to conservatism?
That just might be the solution. Excellent question. You oughta get extra points for that.

Any form of rock, is associated with liberalism, and 80s pop and oldies are associated with conservatism.
Rap really isn’t liberal, and neither is dance music.
I would add hip-hop and jazz to the liberal list, and I would add country/western to the conservative list.

Conservatism is a political ideology
Fiscal conservatism is an economic philosophy
HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!
One does NOT have to be a conservative to be fiscally conservative, nor is every conservative fiscally conservative.
What is so hard to comprehend about that?
@Ruth, I wasn’t referring to you in the slightest so chill out. Read some of the ignorant answers I received to my last question and you will see why I asked this.
Because they often go hand in hand.
You are correct that they are 2 separate animals though.
I am definitely more fiscally conservative than politically conservative.
I feel we need to cut waste and fraud, punish those who committed those acts but not abandon those who need the programs.
It sometimes can be a tight rope.

Many conservatives believe Obama is a Kenyan-born Muslim terrorist who thinks there are 57 states and who secretly dreams of turning America into a socialist country.
This statement is so absurd that many people would take it for a parody. Yet many conservatives actually believe this.
Is there any form of conservatism so extreme that you could be sure it was not the actual opinion of a conservative?
Believe it or not there are intelligent conservatives out there. We all need to be more respectful toward one another.

My homework asks to describe the difference between liberalism and conservatism. Then it asks for what message does "The last days of democracy", by elliot cohen and bruce fraser, give about each. can someone help me?
Liberalism is about the state handling social problems and conservatism is about government staying out of society.

I’m doing an essay for a political science class and I must discuss how Classical Conservatism can be for and against helping out with the mortage. While I understand how it can be for it since CC runs on the belief of the "Social Fabric" but I don’t see how it could be against it.
Could anyone possibly point me in the right direction?
Thank you~!
Sorry , I meant "How it can be for and against providing government assistance to people who cannot pay their home mortgage".
Basically, classical conservatives hold the view that markets are always right, even when the system fails to provide for most.
It’s an idea that can be traced all the way to Adam Smith. Basically, it states that markets left to themselves are more efficient than anything anyone tries in social engineering or compassionate restructuring to try to "fix" the system. Basically, today’s conservatives believe we live in the best of all possible worlds, as long as we let markets be free. In other words, no matter how bad it gets, it’s still the best of all possible worlds.
I won’t get into a discussion on just how free markets really are under such governments, because I’m in a generous mood, but that’s the basic theory.
So they believe helping people in time of need will actually make the system sicker in the long run. That’s the basic "official" answer.
