What are some good websites on Canadian Politics?

I have a research project for next week on the political ideologies of Canada for my social class, and I was hoping to learn info on the Liberals, the NDP, the Green Party, Conservatives, and Bloc Quebecois and their policies and ideas. What are some good websites to find information about this?

Fashion commentary: What did you think of Cindy McCain’s green dress at the Republican Convention?

Politics aside, was it a fashion winner, or was it a fashion disaster?

I thought her in general looked fine last night, but I thought that she looked like she had a lot more wrinkles than she used to have. I then realized why… We just got a new Hi-Def TV and I hadn’t seen her in Hi-Def before… Lol. People have been looking a lot less "flattering" this week… :D

What can you tell me about the Green Party?

I am really interested in their politics. What are their aims? How do they work? What is their political power? Links are welcome aswell, but your own opinion would be much better.

Go to the greenparty.org They spell out their beliefs in fairly simple terms. They have ten basic truths they live by or something like that. They are interesting your best bet is to read their website though.
Actually go to ctgreens.org the website for the CT green partys chapter is laid out better, than just the greenparty.org it is easier to navigate.

Why do all of the foreigners (Indians and Chinese) at my office think they have the right to talk politics?

It’s seriously obnoxious. None of them even have green cards yet, but they are somehow political experts and know exactly how the country should work.
How do we take this country back from the know it all foreigners?

If they got jobs in your office then they are on work visas which means the company went through a lot of trouble to get them, which means they’re worth more than you because they’re more educated. PS, why do Americans interfere in everyone else’s politics via military force and then complain when someone simply makes comments about your politics?

"Green" people: do people spite you for being green?

I’m the president of the environmental club in my high school. I’m a democrat, yes, but I don’t think protecting the environment is about politics; it’s about protecting the world in which we live. People in my school sometimes spite me for being green. It’s almost as if they’re saying, "let’s annoy the big green hippies." Anyone experienced anything similar?

You bet. People are often skeptical about changing their habits or think that one person cannot make a difference. I applaud your efforts to stand behind your convictions. When you talk to people, it’s VERY important to remember that the only thing they are thinking is: What’s in this for me? Approach every project and conversation with this in mind. There are numerous grants available for students and schools to support environmental awareness. Recycling can be used as a fund-raiser if you can partner with someone (or company) that can refurbish the product and sell to others. These funds can be contributed to something the students want (but not in the budget). Speak with your teachers and administrators and suggest that every course has some reference to environmental stewardship. Suggest to the adminstration a list of class projects to focus on. A key point to remember on this: Make sure you include they have to TEACH a boy/girl scout troop or an elementary class about recycling or going green (whatever their earth-friendly topic is)- people don’t usually absorb information if it’s "told" to them. They remember if they have to TEACH it. Don’t give up! One person can truly change the world. It may as well be you!

How are the libertarian, green, and reform party different from the 2 major parties?

Why or why not do these parties have more pull in Ameriacan politics?

The Libertarian Party is against much government involvement in our lives, they want a much smaller government, more economic and social freedoms.
The Green party focuses on environmental issues, but is left-wing to the point of socialism. It favors heavy economic regulation and social programs.
The Reform Party was formed to deal with the issues such as national debt, term limits and campaign finance reform, they are mostly in line with The two major parties but believe the majors to be too corrupt to fix.

They don’t get much traction with voters because They are too small for voter to feel that they can win. Voting Third party is often seen as allowing the other side to win an election by taking votes from the Major party closest the the third party’s ideas, such as Ralph Nader voters giving Bush a win in 2000, or Ross Perot giving Bill Clinton the win in 1992.
When a small party gets a good Idea it is often appropriated by one or both of the Major parties, their growth has been slowed by this as well.

Why is this Damian Green story so important ?

It seems that his arrest has undermined democracy in some way. I do follow politics, but fail to understand why it’s such a big issue ? Could someone fill me in on the history & the whole police state we are supposedly living in… Thank you.

The point of this is that the anti-terrorism laws that the Labour government have brought in have made the line between "breaches of security" and "disclosures in the public interest" very fuzzy.
Damian Green had "leaked" information to the media that the government did not want the general public to be aware of. This is not an isolated case. Almost all opposition MPs do this, in fact as David Cameron said "…in the 1990s…Gordon Brown would have spent most of his time under arrest. He made his career from passing on Whitehall leaks…"
If this arrest is allowed to go unnoticed and unprotested, it sets a precedent for all future cases where somebody publishes or leaks something that embarrasses the government. They can be arrested and held without charge for whatever length of time the anti-terror legislation will allow (currently 28 days, although Brown, Blair and others are in favour of up to 90 days). Their entire family can be questioned, all their affairs looked into, even their bank account could be frozen, with no hope of defending themselves because they are being held without charge. They are effectively being called a terrorist.
Damian Green’s supposed breaches of national security include informing the media that "…5,000 illegal immigrants were working as security guards and bouncers; news that an illegal immigrant was employed as a cleaner in the House of Commons; a whip’s list of potential Labour rebels against 42-day detention for terror suspects; and a letter from Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to Mr Brown warning that the recession would spark a rise in crime…"
Hardly stuff that would aid enemy powers, but definitely stuff that British people should be aware of. One of my own heroes, Tony Benn, said this is "…direct attack on Parliamentary democracy by the police.." and as another answer pointed out, it is something you would expect to happen in some corrupt, tin-pot dictatorship like Zimbabwe.
If heads do not roll over this, this country will be in a terrible situation.

Do we really need to spend $300 million for electric green cars, what happens when the power goes out?

http://www.nypost.com/seven/02112009/news/politics/congress_hopping_carts_154496.htm

The federal government is preparing to spend millions to purchase a fleet of small electric vehicles that critics compare to golf carts.

The $838 billion economic stimulus bill that passed the Senate yesterday contains $300 million for the government to purchase a fleet of "green" cars.

Yes,,, as long as it is funded with government money, and the work is done by big labor union employees.

Because more government, and more labor union, means more democrats.

Just ask any federal, or state, or union worker, which party they vote for.

When the power goes out, Obama will hire thousands of federal employees, to manually turn the generators to keep the power on.

Imran Khan is into Pakistani politics now. What are the chances of his winning in the next elections?

Imran Khan; a former Pakistani test cricketer is the leader of Tahreek-e-Insaaf for over a decade now. His political knowhow is pretty surface but he is struggling to find and to bring the justice to those who have been wronged by the previously ruling parties which were so corrupt. They squeezed the blood of the people of Pakistan by their dirty politics, bureaucracy and feudal minds.

Imran is also, just like any other politician, making promises and giving a tour to the proverbial green pastures but since Pakistanis still have a sour taste in their mouth from those other governments and they have learnt alot about these political thugs, stunts and ploys during the course of time; would be a tough cookie for him to get their votes without buying the villages, taking over the newspapers and bribing the members of the ruling party to pave his way into the office. Will he be the new leader of Pakistan or he will be in fading into the oblivion soon?

imaran is good cricketer i agree.he has many records and achievements in the field of cricket for pakistan.he has good fan following and he is famous also.seeing pakistan politics imrans party has got some chances of winning.

Is this good politics?

Found this article today about a Gov. in Tenn. that is passing a law that all vending machines in government buildings have energy efficient lighting. I am all for going green, but is this what we want our Gov. doing; passing laws about vending machine lighting? Here is the article link… http://welcome2green.com/green-politics/state-vending-machines-go-green-politics-news-story-nashville

Its meaningless. It is just a bone to keep the environmentalists thinking they are making a difference.

I would bet that the new more expensive light bulbs save the state less then $200 a year. I wonder how much time they put into writing this legislation?
