Is it true that Evangelical Christians hate our democracy and want to turn America into a theocracy?

Yes it is. They are becoming more and more misanthropic and anti-democratic and the general population becomes more and more secularized. I know this from experience talking to evangelical friends from law school.

I am sure that is a gross overstatement. Let us hope and pray the America remain free and a democracy although sadly many freedoms are in name only.

This is only true of a vocal minority. The majority of Christians, of all denominations, know better.

I’m sure it’s true of some, but definitely not a blanket statement that covers all or even most Evangelicals.

Certain ones, yes, like dominionists, but the majority don’t want it to be a theocracy.

It’s not true of ALL Evangelical Christians, but there do exist those of ALL faiths who do feel that way.

"Founding fathers and mothers left us a mandate
We’ve got to separate the church and the state
So get your head straight before it’s too late
And you drop it in the plate, you must appreciate

Scream out his lungs, roll in the dung
And when the song is sung, he moves up another rung

Movin’ in next door, searchin’ from floor to floor

No………that’s just hype from the so called "atheist" community.

The so called "atheist" is very insecure because they knew in their gut that they can deny God and pretend not to believe in Him but they can never TRULY convince themselves that He doesn’t exist. So they end up slandering Christianity because it at least makes them feel better about their phony pretense about not beliving in God.

I have been a Christian for over twenty years, know plenty of Christians, and have never heard that.
Personally, I would not want a Theocracy because it doesn’t work. Throughout History it hasn’t worked, because you cannot force a belief system on people. Didn’t work for Constantine, etc. God Himself doesn’t force himself on anyone.
The way the Constitution has it, separation of church and state, is the best possible situation. Let the faith community have their life, and let those who believe otherwise have theirs… agree to disagree and respect each other.
I am a bit insulted by your implication that Christians hate democracy. What?!?! Where do all these extreme ideas about church people come from? (Maybe seekerat got it) Because that attitude exists in no church community that I know of.
Democracy is precious, and right. And as much as I love my vote I repsect and love yours just as much… wouldn’t have it any other way. You are no greater or less of a person than I am.

There is a great deal of evidence, from Evangelicals themselves, that they want to see a "Christian Nation" where their values dominate.

"it is the moral obligation of Christians to recapture every institution for Jesus Christ" – Gary North

"Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ — to have dominion in civil structures, just as in every other aspect of life and godliness. But it is dominion we are after. Not just a voice. It is dominion we are after. Not just influence. It is dominion we are after. Not just equal time. It is dominion we are after. World conquest. That’s what Christ has commissioned us to accomplish." – George Grant

"One faith, one law and one standard of justice did not mean democracy. The heresy of democracy has since then worked havoc in church and state . . . Christianity and democracy are inevitably enemies." – RJ Rushdoony

"The state is a bankrupt institution. The only alternative to this bankrupt ‘humanistic’ system is a God-centered government." – Rushdoony

"The goal is the developed Kingdom of God, the New Jerusalem, a world order under God’s law." – Rushdoony

"So let us be blunt: we must use the doctrine of religious liberty to gain independence for Christian schools until we train up a generation of people who know that there is no religious neutrality, no neutral law, no neutral education, and no neutral civil government. Then they will get busy in constructing a Bible-based social, political and religious order which finally denies the religious liberties of the enemies of God." – Gary North

"The long-term goal of Christians in politics should be to gain exclusive control over the franchise. Those who refuse to submit publicly to the eternal sanctions of God by submitting to His Church’s public marks of the covenant–baptism and holy communion–must be denied citizenship, just as they were in ancient Israel." – Gary North
