Classical Liberalism embraces state power and feels that it should not be limited?
true or false
False,
Extreme right wing conservatism is fascism where the government controls everything.
Extreme left wing liberalism is communism where the government controls everything.
Everything else is in the middle.
Modern liberalism believe government should be used to protect us for corporations and abuse by the powerful. While staying out of our lives, bedrooms, doctor’s office, etc.
Conservatives want to have a say about our sex lives (Gay marriage), our medical decisions (abortions, end of life decisions, see Terry Shivo), and education (see teaching creationism in school). Yet they would enslave us as employees or abandon us as consumers to big corporate entities.

It sounds as if it could be true, but the classical liberals were idealists, each and every one of them.
rdamo; modern liberalism is like that, but only because america’s been screwed over by morons in power so often.

Quote:
"Basically, classical liberalism is the belief in liberty… …People thought they only had such rights as government elected to give them. But following the British philosopher John Locke, Jefferson argued that it’s the other way around… …The only legitimate purpose of government is to protect these rights. "
Classical Liberalism appreciates the necessity of state power, but to remove limits to said power would infringe on the rights enjoyed by citizens, and thus be entirely contrary to a Liberal state.
I can’t think of a Libertarian philosopher who advocated unlimited government power.

No it does not. Classical Liberalism is based on Laissez Faire, which basically means the government should stay out of buisiness. Classical Liberals were the big buisnessmen, capitalists, and/or they supported individual rights and freedom. It was the antithesis of state power.
The Socialist parties of Europe supported government control of the economy, government regulations, and strong central government.
Historically, Americans have feared this type of control. This is why the United States has never had a strong Socialist party. Most Americans have seen a government with too much power as dangerous to individual freedom and privacy.

False classical liberalism is suspicious of state power and sees it as a threat to liberty.
Modern liberalism holds the opposite view and is more in line with other collectivist, such as socialist and communist.
