Difference between collectivism and individualism on our personal identity?

and also show how each may influence different personal behaviors.

Collectivism encourages people to adopt behaviours because other people in their society have also. For example, the usage of the internet in our society–people have a vast knowledge of computers and the internet because our society deems in necessary to be that way. Very few people go without a computer in their home these days.

Individualism is a person making choices that are inherently personal and make them different from the others around them. This may include clothing, hair, or choice of occupation.

    collectivism-countries in asia
you think about society more, focus on needs of family

    individualism-U.S.
think about yourself, your needs, etc

personally, coming from an asian background, we were raised to value family and put the needs of family in front of the needs of my own.

the US. is more individualistic, we’re raised here to look out for ourselves and our sole needs.

its a definite battle for me because i am asian and american. two conflicting ideals.
